ABN AMRO World Tennis Tournament - Rotterdam, Netherlands - February 19-25. Prediction?

[Seeded Number] Player Name (World Rankings)

  1. [1] Nikolay Davydenko (3)
  2. Defending champion and eighth seed Radek Stepanek was elimated in the 2nd round 7-6(12), 7-6(6) against German Philipp Kohlschreiber (58).
  3. SF Predictions: Ljubicic def. Davydenko, Ferrer def. Djokovic
    F Prediction: Ljubicic def. Ferrer

Ljubicic and Davydenko have both been in poor form in the past week, but sometimes I think it takes an early exit to snap players back into shape. I predict strong form as they take advantage of a weaker draw.

Ferrer (big win at Heineken) and Djokovic have both had incredible starts to the 2007 season, and I predict them both to live up to their seeding this tournament.

  4. [2] Tommy Robredo (7)
  5. I am thinking about a Davydenko and Lubicic final depending on how the tourney seeds (sometimes it is 1 v. 3 or 1v.4 in the semmis). Davydenko can beat all the other players right ow with his powerful groundstrokes.
  6. Dangerous unseed player Mikhail Youzhny (22) has dislodged number 4 seed Tomas Berdych from the tournament 6-4, 6-7(5), 6-1.
  7. Mikhail Youzhny (18) won his fourth career title with a 62, 6-4 win over 3rd seed Ivan Ljubicic. Youzhny recorded his first ATP victory over Ljubicic in seven meetings.
  8. [5] Novak Djokovic (14)
  9. [4] Tomas Berdych (12)
  10. Rotterdam has attracted the better players this week and they have the best draw. Stepanek is the defending champion but his recent form is hard to judge; he played three qualifying matches to enter Marseille and then retired in the first round.
  11. [6] David Ferrer (15)
  12. Mikhail Youzhny (22) made the final by defeating 5th seed Novak Djokovic 3-6, 7-6(7), 7-5, saving three match points en route. Youzhny is going for his 3rd titles and he has had his best results indoors.

His opponent will be 3rd seed Ivan Ljubicic who defeated 1st seed Nikolay Davydenko in a great contest 4-6, 7-6(4), 7-6(4). Ljubicic will be going for his eight title with a 7-0 career lead on Youzhny, of which two have come earlier this year (Doha, Zagreb).

  13. [3] Ivan Ljubicic (8)
  14. Mikhail Youzhny (22) defeated sixth seed David Ferrer 6-2, 7-5 to advance to the semi-finals where he will face fifth seed Novak Djokovic, who himself defeated 2nd seed Tommy Robredo 4-6, 6-4, 7-5. The other semi-final is highly anticipated, with 1st seed Nikolay Davydenko facing 3rd seed Ivan Ljubicic.
  15. [8] Radek Stepanek (19)
  16. [7] Lleyton Hewitt (18)
  17. Davydenko is hard to read as well, he struggles one week then claims a title the next. Robredo had a very good summer in Australia and this is his first tournament since, I think he will do very well. Ljubicic is in terrible form, he was able to make the final at Zagreb a fortnight ago playing terrible tennis. Hewitt looking for form, retired at Marseille last week but looked okay form-wise. Berdych and Djokovic are very dangerous young players.
  18. My tip is Robredo, his had impressive results lately.
